“When Lessons Beyond the Lesson Plan!…”

What exactly is research? I was looking for a very simple answer to this question… something that slowly processed as I kept thinking.

Research means studying a subject carefully to gain new information, solve problems, or verify whether the information is correct.

In simple words, research is a systematic effort to find answers.

That’s it… is it?

While writing a theory paper, we can expand this with many points. But when it comes to actual learning and doing a practical case study, how can this really be applied? This simple thought came to my mind, and this not-so-simple thought taught me a lot. This is the real learning process… something we need to recognize.

While thinking about what a case study could look like, I experienced a completely different frequency of thoughts today.

Often, we do research, collect information, and look for reasons… yet, while searching, it feels like we reach the root of the question and return from the same point. We understand something, we observe something, but we are not able to connect it completely.

So, what can be considered while thinking of this as a case study?

Let us assume a student from Grade 8 who feels bored with the Marathi subject. He does not like reading, writing, or grammar. But the same student shows some level of enthusiasm while learning Hindi or French.

The same child, the same brain… then where does the difference lie?

This question is not just about the student; as a teacher, it is also about me.

I ask myself…

Is my teaching method reaching him?

Am I making the subject come alive?

Or is there an invisible gap forming somewhere between me and the student?

It is not always the teacher who falls short. Students’ mindset, their interests, and their exposure are equally important. Yet, something still remains… something that is visible, something that is felt, but not fully connected.

Now the question is, what should be my first step in this case study?

Perhaps, first of all… to stop doubting myself.

Never doubt yourself. Right?

This is not only important for teachers, but equally important for students.

To stop thinking about who will judge me and how. Because some things take time.

Back to our case study…

We teach a poem in class, but students do not find it interesting. Often, they are in their own world of imagination. And once again, a learning gap is created.

So, what is the solution?

Let them begin from their own world. Let them think.

“What is your favorite poem?”

“What was your grandparents’ favorite poem?”

“A lullaby your mother used to sing?”

“Any childhood memory?”

Through such small things, students slowly begin to open up… and from there, the bridge starts forming.

But… while teaching, teachers are expected to follow a lesson plan. And along with that, the biggest factor, time management. That itself can be a separate topic.

Again, a question arises…

We create the lesson plan ourselves, then why don’t these ideas come to us at that time? Why does it not happen as per the plan? Where are we going wrong?

Nowhere. Absolutely right.

Because teaching is not just planning… it is a live process.

Every time we enter a classroom, the situation is different.

In that moment, instant action, decision-making, and presence of mind become very important.

Then we keep asking ourselves again and again…

“I have my lesson plan, my scenario is clear… then why does this still happen?”

Maybe the answer is simple…

Always tell yourself:

Just forget… and focus on actively bridging the gap.

Someone is observing,

Someone is judging,

this will always continue, 

and it’s important for sustainable progress.

But when we truly begin to live both our roles, as a teacher and as a learner, things start falling into place.

Maybe teaching is not about being perfect…

But about making an honest effort to connect, even in imperfection, every single time.

And maybe… that is where real learning begins.

“When Lessons Beyond the Lesson Plan!…”

     संशोधन म्हणजे नक्की काय.. मला या प्रश्नाचं अगदी साधं उत्तर हवं होतं.. जे विचार करताना हळूहळू process होत राहिले... 

     संशोधन म्हणजे एखाद्या विषयाचा नीट अभ्यास करून नवीन माहिती मिळवणे, समस्या सोडवणे किंवा माहिती बरोबर आहे का ते तपासणे.

सोप्या शब्दात सांगायचं तर, उत्तर शोधण्यासाठी केलेला व्यवस्थित अभ्यास म्हणजे संशोधन.

बस, हे इतकंच असतं.. is it?...

     एखादा थिअरी पेपर लिहिताना आपण यात बरेच मुद्दे देऊन ते वाढवू शकतो. पण हेच जेव्हा actual learning मध्ये practical case study करायचं असेल तेव्हा ते कसं करता येईल, याचा एक साधा विचार मनात आला आणि हा साधा नसलेला विचार मला बरंच काही शिकवून गेला.. हीच खरी learning process.. ज्याला आपल्याला ओळखायचं असतं..

ह्यावरच मला एखादी case study कशी असू शकते, ज्याचा विचार करताना आज वेगळंच काहीतरी असं विचारांची frequency अनुभवायला मिळाले.

     बऱ्याचदा आपण संशोधन (research) करतो, माहिती गोळा करतो, कारणं शोधतो… पण तरीही शोध घेताना असं वाटतं की आपण प्रश्नाच्या अगदी मुळाशी जाऊन पुन्हा तिथूनच परत येतो. काहीतरी समजतं, दिसतं, पण पूर्णपणे जोडता येत नाही.

     ह्याची case study म्हणून विचार करताना काय विचारात घेता येईल? 

     समजा, इयत्ता आठवीतला एखादा विद्यार्थी मराठी विषयात कंटाळा करतो. त्याला वाचन, लेखन, व्याकरण काहीच आवडत नाही.  पण तोच विद्यार्थी हिंदी किंवा फ्रेंच शिकताना मात्र काही प्रमाणात उत्साहाने सहभागी होतो. 

तोच मुलगा, तोच मेंदू… मग फरक कुठे पडतो?

हा प्रश्न फक्त त्या विद्यार्थ्याचा नाही, तर शिक्षक म्हणून माझ्यासाठीही आहे.

मला स्वतःला हा प्रश्न पडतो...

माझी शिकवण्याची पद्धत त्याच्यापर्यंत पोहोचते आहे का?

मी विषय जिवंत करते आहे का?

की, कुठेतरी माझ्या आणि विद्यार्थ्याच्या मध्ये एक न दिसणारी दरी तयार होते आहे?

     प्रत्येक वेळी शिक्षकच कमी पडतो असं नाही. विद्यार्थ्यांची मानसिकता, त्यांची आवड, त्यांचा exposure हे सगळं तितकंच महत्त्वाचं असतं. पण तरीही, काहीतरी असं राहून जातं… जे दिसतं, जाणवतं, पण पूर्णपणे connect होत नाही.

आता प्रश्न असा, या case study मध्ये माझा पहिले पाऊल काय असायला हवे?

कदाचित सगळ्यात आधी… स्वतःवर शंका घेणं थांबवणं.

Never doubt yourself.  Right?

हे फक्त शिक्षकांसाठीच नाही, तर विद्यार्थ्यांसाठीही तितकंच महत्त्वाचं आहे.

मला कोण कसं आणि काय judge करेल याचा विचार सोडणं.  Because some things take time.

Back to our case study,

आपण वर्गात कविता शिकवतो, पण विद्यार्थ्यांना त्यात रस वाटत नाही. कारण बऱ्याचदा ते त्यांच्या स्वतःच्या imagination च्या जगात असतात.  पुन्हा इथेच एक learning चा gap तयार होतो.

मग ह्यावर उपाय काय?

त्यांना त्यांच्या जगातून सुरुवात करू देणं.  Let them think.

“तुझी आवडती कविता कोणती?”

“तुझ्या आजी-आजोबांची आवडती कविता?”

"आईने गायलेले अंगाई गीत?"

“लहानपणीची एखादी आठवण?”

अशा छोट्या गोष्टींमधून विद्यार्थी हळूहळू open होत जातात आणि तिथूनच तो bridge तयार होऊ लागतो.

पण... शिकवताना शिक्षकांना lesson plan हा follow करावाच लागतो.  त्यातही  सगळ्यात मोठं Time Management.  तो एक वेगळा विषय होऊ शकतो.

इथे पुन्हा प्रश्न... 

Lesson plan आपणच बनवतो, मग त्या वेळी हे सगळं का नाही सुचत? का नाही होत ठरवल्या plan प्रमाणे? कुठे चुकतंय?

कुठेच नाही! बरोबर!

कारण teaching ही फक्त planning नाही… ती एक live process आहे.

वर्गात गेल्यावर प्रत्येक वेळेला परिस्थिती वेगळी असते.

तेव्हा instant act, decision आणि presence of mind खूप महत्त्वाचं ठरतं.

मग स्वतःलाच एक प्रश्न आपण पुन्हा पुन्हा विचारतो...

“माझ्याकडे lesson plan आहे, माझा scenario clear आहे… तरीही असं का होतं?”

कदाचित उत्तर इतकंच... 

Always tell yourself: 

Just forget… and focus on actively bridging the gap.

कोणीतरी observe करतंय,

कोणीतरी judge करतंय,

हे सतत चालूच राहणार आहे, 

आणि ते दीर्घकालीन प्रगतीसाठी महत्त्वाचं आहे.

पण जेव्हा आपण आपल्या दोन्ही भूमिका, teacher आणि learner ह्या मनापासून जगायला लागतो, तेव्हा गोष्टी आपोआप जुळायला लागतात.

कदाचित teaching म्हणजे perfect असणं नाही…

तर प्रत्येक वेळी imperfect असतानाही connect होण्याचा प्रामाणिक प्रयत्न करणं आहे.

And maybe… that is where real learning begins.

     Sharing a glimpse from a recent session on Holistic Education, conducted by Dr. Beena Nayaken, which inspired me to reflect and expand my thinking.

     When you learn from someone who has been a strong foundation in your educational journey, the knowledge you receive is not just guidance. It is a perspective that refines your thinking and strengthens your ability to reflect.

     A simple closing activity during the session left a deep impact. It made us think about how our students should be when they step out into the world. Simple, yet truly powerful.

     Education is not just about gaining knowledge. It shapes perspectives, values and the way we see ourselves and others.

     Time is always an opportunity. It is in our hands to create, reflect and grow. Sometimes, all it takes is to pause, think and listen to your inner self.

     Every step forward brings you closer to a better version of yourself.

कविता #26 - कृपा

कधी कधी खरंच असं वाटतं की आपण सगळं व्यवस्थित सांभाळतोय, पण आतून मात्र कुठेतरी थकलो आहोत... रोजच्या आयुष्यात बोलताना काही गोष्टी गिळून टाकतो, हसताना काही वेदना लपवतो, आणि पुढे जात राहतो. जबाबदाऱ्या, अपेक्षा आणि धावपळ यामध्ये स्वतःशी निवांत बसण्याची सवडच मिळत नाही. मग एखादा शांत क्षण येतो आणि आपण स्वतःलाच विचारतो... मी नेमका कोणासाठी एवढा धावत आहे?  

त्या क्षणी जाणवतं की मनात खूप काही साचलेलं आहे. भीती, संभ्रम, न बोललेले प्रश्न… पण त्याच मनात कुठेतरी एक शांत, स्थिर जागाही आहे. तिथे पोहोचलो की कळतं, "आपण पूर्णपणे एकटे नाही आहोत."

काहीतरी अदृश्य आधार सतत सोबत असतो.  तो गाजावाजा करत नाही, स्वतःचं अस्तित्व सिद्ध करत बसत नाही, पण जेव्हा आपण थोडं थांबतो, थोडं मन मोकळं करतो, थोडा विश्वास ठेवतो, तेव्हा त्याची जाणीव होते. 

सगळं स्वतःच पेलायची गरज नसते, हे समजणं म्हणजेच कदाचित आतून मजबूत होण्याची सुरुवात असावी.

ही कविता त्या जाणिवेबद्दल आहे... स्वतःशी प्रामाणिक होण्याबद्दल, आतल्या शांत जागेला ऐकण्याबद्दल, आणि नकळत आयुष्यात पसरत राहणाऱ्या त्या कृपेच्या हलक्या, आश्वासक स्पर्शाबद्दल.

ही कविता त्या अंतर्मनातून उमटणाऱ्या एका साध्या, पण खोल दडलेल्या भावनांना व्यक्त करणारी साद आहे.

तुझे शब्द श्वास व्हावे,

तुझा ध्यास आस ठरावे,

तुझ्यामुळे तल्लीन व्हावे,

मन वारे सावरावे.

अंधार सावल्या झटकुनी,

भीती उडवी वाऱ्यांनी,

अश्रूंना हसू खुलावे,

पावलांना दिशा लाभावे.

गाभाऱ्यात उजेड साठे,

शून्यातही नवे पथ गाठे,

वादळात किनारा मिळे,

हरवुनी स्वतःला सापडे.

हा प्रवास अदृश्यात मिसळे,

शांत सागरात विसावे,

कृपेच्या ओघात वाहावे,

इथेच अंतर्मन उजळावे!

कविता #23 - शाळा!

(सदर कविता प्रत्यक्ष दैनिकांमध्ये प्रसिद्ध झालेली आहे.  नावासहित शेअर करण्यास हरकत नाही.) 

     ही कविता म्हणजे केवळ शाळेचं वर्णन नाही, तर प्रत्येकाच्या आयुष्यातील एका अविस्मरणीय प्रवासाची आठवण आहे. पहिल्या घंटानादापासून ते वर्गातल्या खोडकर हसण्यांपर्यंत, मैदानावरच्या धावण्यांपासून ते ग्रंथालयातील शांततेपर्यंत... आपण सगळेच कधी ना कधी हे जगणं अनुभवलं आहे. ही कविता वाचताना आपण फक्त शब्द वाचत नाही, तर स्वतःचं बालपण पुन्हा एकदा अलगद जगत असतो.

     शाळेचा प्रत्येक दिवस काहीतरी शिकवून गेला. टिफिनमधला वाटलेला घास मैत्रीचं मोल शिकवून गेला, छोट्या छोट्या यशांनी आत्मविश्वास दिला, तर अपयशांनी धैर्य दिलं. शिक्षकांच्या शब्दांतून मिळालेलं मार्गदर्शन आणि मैदानावर शिकलेलं धैर्य ह्यातून अनुभवांतून आपण आज जे आहोत ते घडलो आहोत.

     घंटानाद, वर्ग, बाक, मैदान... हे शब्द फक्त आठवणी नाहीत, तर आपल्या मनावर कोरलेले ठसे आहेत. आज आपण कितीही पुढे गेलो, कितीही बदललो, तरी मनाच्या कुठल्यातरी कोपऱ्यात  शाळेतला प्रत्येक कोपरा अजूनही जिवंत आहे. ही कविता त्या आठवणींना जणू हळूच हाक मारते.

     प्रत्येकाची शाळा वेगळी असली, तरी तिथे उमललेली स्वप्नं, मैत्री, संस्कार आणि आत्मविश्वास मात्र सगळ्यांसाठी सारखेच असतात. शाळा म्हणजे फक्त इमारत नाही, तर माणूस घडवणारी भावना आहे, हे ही कविता ठळकपणे सांगते.

     ही कविता आपल्याला फक्त भूतकाळात नेऊन ठेवत नाही, तर आजच्या आपल्याला एक हळवा प्रश्नही करतेय!

“तुला घडवणाऱ्या त्या शाळेच्या आठवणीला अजूनही तू साद घालतेस का?”

शाळेचा पहिला घंटानाद, उघडतो ज्ञानाचे दरवाजे,

मैत्रीची रंगीत दुनिया, फुलते नित्य वर्गामध्ये.

शिक्षकांच्या शब्दांमध्ये, मार्गदर्शनाचा उज्ज्वल प्रकाश,

खेळ–अभ्यास–हसू–मस्ती, यातूनच होत जातो विकास.

मैदानावरच्या वेगवान धावण्यात, शिकतो धैर्याचं बळ,

छोट्या छोट्या यशांनी, प्रत्येक दिवस होई उजळ.

टिफिनमधला वाटलेला घास, देतो मैत्रीचा गोड पुरावा,

या नात्यांच्या उबेतून, मनाला मिळतो नवाच ठावा.

ग्रंथालयातील शांततेत, पुस्तकं देतात ज्ञानाची मजा,

प्रत्येक पानावर उमटतो, जीवनाचा सुंदर धडा.

सभागृहातील कार्यक्रम, उभारी देतात स्वप्नांना,

उमलतात नवे कलागुण, आत्मविश्वास वाढतो मना.

मैत्री, संस्कार, स्वप्नं इथेच सगळं आकार घेतं,

शाळेचा हा प्रवास, खरं माणूस घडवतं.

शाळा म्हणजे फक्त इमारत नाही, ती भावनांची दुनिया,

इथेच शिकतो आपण, जीवन जगण्याची खरी किमया.
